Cheshire Schools FA Host Trio of Summer Festivals

Over 200 children participate in inclusive, non-competitive football in festivals hosted across May and June 2024.

With a focus on non-competitive football, Cheshire Schools FA hosted three summer inclusive football festivals across May and June 2024.

The festivals saw over 200 children from local primary and secondary schools take part, in events celebrating inclusive football at Cheshire FA’s HQ in Northwich. The friendly tournaments were open to both boys and girls, while the matches were officiated by learners from Petty Pool College; many of whom are on their way to completing their Introduction to Coaching Football qualification.

John Clark, of Cheshire Schools FA, said: “The events were part of the Premier League Primary Stars Festival of Football for children in the county’s primary schools, supported by the Premier League, The FA and the England Schools FA (ESFA) to provide a fun introduction to school football for children.

“The emphasis is on enjoyment in a non-competitive atmosphere, rather than winning, and multiple primary schools from across the county too part on each day. Each team played six 10-minute matches at Cheshire FA’s excellent 3G pitch, with each player receiving an ESFA medal at the end of the festival.

“We’re indebted to Cheshire FA for providing their facilities, with particular thanks to Ellie Henagulph and Mat Griffiths at Cheshire FA for their help and support on the day, and to the students at Petty Pool College, who refereed the games.”

Ellie Henagulph, Cheshire FA’s Disability Football Development Officer, added: “It was great to see so many schools taking part in the festivals. The children had a great time, and I hope to support some of them with the transition to local clubs next season. We also had brilliant referee support from the learners at Petty Pool College, with some learners securing future football volunteering opportunities. A big thanks to John Clark for organising three successful festivals.”
